It's Christmas Time

Winter is the time of year,

Filling days with Christmas cheer.

Decorations hung with care,

The Day Is Here

Sean and Dad left for Salt Lake City yesterday for Sean's surgery. They left at 11am and got there at midnight. There was a huge snow storm that decided to blow in the day they were to travel. It was even snowing here in Las Vegas.
Sean's surgery started at about 2 pm today. The surgery usually takes about an hour, but with Sean, some things don't go as planned. He had them rearranging the operating room to accommodate his height. Dad called at about 4 pm to let us know that Sean did well in surgery. He called again at 5:45 pm to give us the phone number to Sean's room. It was absolutely wonderful to hear Sean's voice in the background asking for a fan because he was hot. He was even lucid enough to crack a joke about a couple of hot nurses seeing him naked. It was good to hear that the surgery hadn't effected his brain too much.
Sean should be released on Thursday to the hotel. He'll hopefully be released to come home by Christmas Eve. May we all keep our fingers crossed.

The Day Fast Approaches....

Well it is hard to believe but the day that I have been fighting for so hard over the last two years is quickly coming to down the calendar pike. Since I have spent the last few months studying for the second shot at the LSAT (Yes, I was accepted to a few law schools but I wanted to see if I could possibly up my score a little and maybe get into a school closer to Vegas) I haven't really had the chance to process all of the emotions that have been going through my head. I am very excited for the opportunities that having bariatric surgery will bring me (particularly the fact that I can lose enough weight to either have my back problems fix themselves or for me to find out what really is the matter with it.) but the idea of having surgery at all kind of freaks me out just a little bit. After seeing Nikki in the hospital all the times that she has been in them I really don't have any bug compelling me to go under the knife, although I know that the reasons are good ones.

Over the last few months I have had to try and prepare my body for the surgery that is going to take place with Dr. Cottam up in SLC on Dec 16th. This preparation includes basically starving myself for months on end so that my body will loose weight around the liver but also so that I can mentally prepare for the amount of food that I will be eating post-surgery. I guess that many people have a bit of a hard time post surgery when the nurse walks in with a tablespoon worth of food and says "Bon Appetit". Hopefully this will no be a problem with me.

As for travel plans, Dad and I will be leaving town the morning of the 15th sometime and take our time going up towards SLC. We don't want to rush to much with the snow, and we will have to take frequent breaks for his bladder and my back and knees. The next day I will undergo surgery. Since the surgery is a big one, I will then spend the needed time in the hospital recovering until they release me at which time Dad and I will spend the next 5-6 days in a local hotel. This is necessary because of the complications that are possible with the surgery and the fact that I have to be close to the surgeon just in case. Hopefully those few days locked up in SLC right across the street pretty much from Temple Square will not be as bad as I think that they are going to be. I don't know how I am going to take being cooped up knowing what is right outside the door but hopefully I will get to a point physically that I can walk over there at least for a few minutes.

Anyways... hopefully you will all keep me in your prayers and all will go well for this long awaited surgery. The plan is to update this frequently so that you all can go on the weight loss journey that I am going on . Wish me luck and I hope to see you all soon.

Just Starting Out

Everyone in the family has started their own blogs, so we are now getting in on the action. So, for a first timer with little time to spare at 6:35 in the morning, I will simply post a recent photo of the kids. They are experiencing their first real Christmas tree this year, and boy are they happy. Check out the smiles!!!
